The Canon PIXMA MG3620 is a solid all-in-one printer that supports automatic duplex printing, which means it can print on both sides without you manually flipping the paper halfway through. But the duplex feature isn't always obvious to find. This guide walks you through enabling it, setting it as default, and troubleshooting the most common problems.
Canon PIXMA MG3620 Duplex Capability
The MG3620 supports automatic duplex printing on standard plain paper. The duplex unit is built into the printer and handles the page flip internally. This distinguishes it from budget Canon PIXMA models (like the TS202) which require manual duplexing.
Enable Auto-Duplex on Windows (MG3620)
Method A. From your application
- Press Ctrl+P to open the print dialog
- Click Properties or Preferences next to the Canon MG3620
- In the Canon printer driver dialog, go to the Main tab
- Check Duplex Printing (Manual), wait, despite the label, this triggers the automatic duplexer on the MG3620
- Confirm Long-side stapling (portrait) or Short-side stapling (landscape)
- Click OK and Print
Method B. Set as default
- Go to Settings → Printers & scanners → Canon MG3600 series → Printer properties
- Click Printing Defaults
- Check Duplex Printing (Manual) and set binding side
- Click Apply, now all print jobs default to duplex
Enable Auto-Duplex on Mac (MG3620)
- Open your document and press Cmd+P
- Click Show Details in the print dialog
- In the dropdown, select Layout
- Set Two-Sided to Long-Edge Binding (for portrait orientation)
- Click Print, the MG3620 will automatically print both sides
If "Two-Sided" doesn't appear, check System Settings → Printers & Scanners → Canon MG3620 → Options & Supplies → Options tab, and enable Duplex Unit: Available.
Common Problems & Fixes
Duplex option greyed out
This usually means the Canon driver isn't recognizing the duplex unit. Uninstall the printer, download the latest driver from Canon's support site (canon.com/support), and reinstall using the full driver package.
Pages printing in wrong order
For automatic duplex on the MG3620, the printer handles page order internally. If pages come out scrambled, the issue is likely with the PDF itself. Use DuplexReady to verify and correct page ordering before sending to the printer.
Paper jams in the duplex unit
The most common cause is using paper that's too thick or too light. For the MG3620, use 75-90 gsm plain paper. Also check that the paper stack isn't too thick, the input tray holds approximately 100 sheets maximum for duplex jobs.
Booklet Printing on the Canon PIXMA MG3620
The MG3620 can print booklets using its automatic duplexer:
- Use DuplexReady or Adobe Reader to reorder your PDF into booklet format
- Print with duplex enabled and long-edge binding
- Fold the printed sheets in half and staple along the spine

Confusingly, no, on the MG3620 and similar Canon PIXMA models, "Duplex Printing (Manual)" in the driver refers to the printing mode, not a manual paper-flip requirement. The printer's built-in duplexer handles the flip automatically. You do not need to reload paper.
Yes. In the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app, go to Photo Print or Document Print, tap Settings, and enable Two-Sided Printing. The app communicates with the printer's built-in duplexer.
The automatic duplexer on the MG3620 supports A4 and Letter sizes. It does not support duplex printing on A5, B5, envelopes, or photo paper. For those sizes, use manual duplex if needed.
